"Speed of Light" Trans-Pacific Cable Launched
Google announced that the 60Tbps long-haul undersea fibre optic cable from the US to Japan that it invested in has come online as of today, June 30, 2016. The Google Cloud itself will have access to up to 10Tbps (Terabits per second) of the cable's total 60Tbps bandwidth. This bandwidth will power Google Apps and their Cloud Platform. According to the Google Cloud team "customers will run at the speed of light with this new FASTER undersea pipe."

IBM announced Watson for Cyber Security, a new cloud-based version of the company's cognitive technology trained on the language of security as part of a year-long research project. IBM plans to collaborate with eight universities to greatly expand the collection of security data IBM has trained the cognitive system with.

Google's OnHub Router Gains IFTTT Support
Last year, Google introduced its OnHub router through a partnership with TP-LINK. The device was aimed at simplifying Wi-Fi and making it less annoying, giving you fast, easy, and secure Wi-Fi as opposed to “unplugging and re-plugging cords, trying to decipher blinking lights, or contemplating a call to customer support.”

Last week at the Open Compute Project (OCP) Summit in San Jose, Microsoft announced an open sourced “Software for Open Networking in the Cloud (SONiC)” for running network devices like switches. Mellanox, Dell, Arista, and Broadcom collaborated the company on the project.
